Biography of Pieter Defesche
1921-1998, Maastricht, Limburg-Holland Pieter Defesche Limburg was a painter of mainly landscapes, still lifes and biblical scenes in expressionist, almost abstract style. He also made collages, murals, scenery and costumes (including for the Scapino ballet). He was strongly influenced by his teacher at the Rijksakademie Heinrich Campendonk. Davis received the Prix de Rome in 1949, followed in 1964 by the Prix Europe de La Peinture. In the early 1970s he developed a way of painting that has not substantially changed. There were, however, within its visual language continuously shifts. With especially the landscape painted Davis as a starting point, a reality that is as mythical let experienced, where he constantly ranged between figuration and abstraction. Pieter Defesche belonged with Lataster, Jef Diederen, Lei Molin, Pierre van Soest, Jan Frans Stekelenburg, Nols and Harry OBAs to the group that in painting is also known as the ' Amsterdam Limburg citizens '. Dollie Defesche-Bakker in 2006 donated his widow bequeathed by her husband all works of art on Museum van Bommel van Dam in Venlo. The atelier-oeuvre of the Cobra predecessor Pieter Defesche is now part of the basic collection.
