May Claerhout (born 21 February 1939-Pittem Oostmalle, 7 november 2016) was a Belgian artist, known for her sculptures and paintings. May Claerhout followed no art training. Her style is described as naive and artless, related to folk art. [2] human characteristics are frequently caricatured, humorous. On the other hand, there are also very serious work. She is best known for her work in terracotta and bronze. Her work has been exhibited in many places already. In 1983 there was an exhibition at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Several works by May Claerhout stand on public places. May Claerhout received in 2010 the price "P Jac pill", a cultural price of the davidsfonds in Lint. In 1977 published a book about Jan Veulemans May Calderon: the art of May Claerhout, poetic framed by Jan Veulemans, Brussels, Arcade, ISBN 9782800501192.
