Mareike Geys, born in 1945 in Rotterdam, has a great passion for painting and drawing. Because they all wanted to be like artist from an early age, she studied from 1963 to 1965 at the free Academy in the Hague, where she specialized in model drawing. She has studied with Ateliers ' 63 in Haarlem, where she studied with and guidance from experienced artists such as Lataster and Pierre van Soest. Geys lives and works alternatively in Netherlands and France.
The oeuvre of Geys consists of paintings and drawings with watercolor, oil and acrylic paint. Although she during her study at Ateliers ' 63 has painted some time lyrical abstract, they soon discover that figuration came her better. There often appeared as recognizable objects in her work. Landscapes are central to the creations of Geys. She is known for her surreal landscapes, when they were in the 80s itself is going to focus on seascapes. By chance, there was a face in one of the paintings: the rock is the nose and the fish is the mouth. Since then, the artist more surreal seascapes start painting. In addition to landscapes has Geys also many artworks created with portraits. Also in these portraits the landscape is an important element. "I recognize some heads In a landscape," said the artist.
