Marco Kooiman was born in Zimbabwe but now living in Vlissingen. Are big favorites are Giovanni Fattori and Roy Lichtenstein. He studied in Canada and Italy. From that last country he also gets his inspiration for his work, especially from the region of Abruzzo. He uses traditional subjects, but gives them unusual colors, such as blue sheep and pink cows. With his works he wants to radiate warmth, elegance, simplicity and color. As he himself says: "Pop art meets the Macchiaioli." This was a group of Italian artists (including Fattori and Lega) that many worked with ' macchie ' what spots means. Around 1870, this was an important trend in impressionism.
