Jos Verwiel exhibits in his work a sense of romance. He belongs to the Group of individualists who follows his own heart and not the modepad. The motives for his work are inspired by the water and the marine environment. These include the shipping and sailing, navigation and cartography. Instruments necessary for navigating, for astronomy, are sometimes cast in bronze to literally as "found object", along with other objects, to a new object to be joined. He fantasizes within regular rules of order, rhythm and structure, but also takes the freedom to to play with. Size and arrangement in the rust-coloured images he began at the beginning of the 1990s. They show almost a graphic of dungetekende structures. He enjoys working in an eclectic style and will not tackle on a uniform style, which would impose obligations him too much. He currently works mainly on the flat surface, taking in a documentary atmosphere large paintings. Transparent branches and images from the science, lighthouses, shipbuilding, etc. create a layering which sculptures seem.
