John Lie A Fo is a Surinamese artist. He has a Chinese-Surinamese family name. He lives and works in French Guyana and Netherlands. He paints, does graphic works, makes sculptures, using themes from the Surinamese jungle. In the 1960s, he works as a musician in several European countries. Lie A Fo follows an art training at the Royal Academy of fine arts in Antwerp and the Vrije Academie in the Hague. In 1974, he admitted to the BKR (the Visual Artists scheme), so that he can devote themselves completely to the art. In 1979 draws Lie A Fo in Suriname. After the december murders, he returns to the Hague. From the first half of the 1980s there has been a lot of interest in his graphic work and follow various exhibitions. In december 1983 he moves to French Guiana, a neighbouring country of Suriname, but with the same natural environment that can be found in his work. He turns back to the Hague to work there. His work is exhibited all over Netherlands.
