Jan Bollaert describes his work as follows: "primary is the atmosphere that the work. There are no rational or conceptual reflections. All associations are purely intuitive and contains every possible symbolism that the work is non-occasional ". The artist places his work within the neo-pop (pop art) style direction. More than ever, the paintings of Jan Bollaert from what he himself describes as ' nostalgia for an imagined past. ' He goes out in his carefully constructed representations of film images and produced stage photos of more than half a century ago. With razor sharp precision, he imagines a fantasy world, made up of passionate clichés to surreal proportions magnified and relativiteert at the same time. ' I'm still a hopeless romantic, with all its pros and cons, ' gives Jan Bollaert. In his approach he imitates the drukprocédés of old fashioned magazines by the presentation in black and white and then with transparent layers of paint in color. It gives his paintings an unsurpassed impression of ' authenticity ', which the viewer meelokt to Bollaert inviting make-believe world where clichés a relaunches and dreams come true – even if only for a moment.
